De politieke chaos in Nepal wordt er niet minder op nu de Maoïstische hardliner Mohan Baidya heeft aangekondigd – in samenzang met zijn kompaan Ram Bahadur Thapa – de Maoïstische partij te splitsen. De nieuwe partij van Baidya heet de Communist Party of Nepal, Maoist.
Er was drie dagen lang vergaderd: “The new party has 44-member central committee, comprising those who were in the central committee of the UCPN (M).
During the closed door session, almost all the discussion panels had suggested the leadership to form a new party rather than going for a patch-up with the party establishment.”
Hoeveel overlopers er met Baidya meeverhuizen is op dit moment onbekend. De politieke impact dus ook.
De spanningen tussen de leiders Pushpa Kamal Dahal en Baburam Bhattarai enerzijds en de Mohan Baidya faction anderzijds waren al lang te voelen. Dahal had volgens Baidya c.s. de onaangename gewoonte van het Rechte Ideologische Pad af te wijken, en verkwanselde af en toe de Hogere Idealen van het Zuivere Communisme door met politieke tegenstanders een deal te sluiten om het land enigszins ‘regeerbaar’ te maken.
Dat is overigens geheel mislukt, maar men zou kunnen zeggen dat Dahal er tenminste nog een poging toe deed. Baidya is vooralsnog niet van plan een duimbreed toe te geven, is de verwachting, met als kanttekening: “Despite floating the new party, Baidya group has said it would still keep open the doors for talks with the UCPN (Maoist) leadership on ideological issues.”
Tja, een nieuwe grondwet is tot op heden niet gelukt. Komen er nu wel of geen verkiezingen op 22 November? Niemand die het weet. Dus, gewoon doorleven maar. Met of zonder regering.
Een wanhopige president Ram Baran Yadav blijft de politieke leiders van Nepal hardnekkig oproepen tot ‘unity’ en ‘consensus’: “I urge you all to show the highest level of wisdom and consensus, and remind you that there is no alternative than showing goodwill.
I expect you to take immediate initiatives to find a solution to the stalled political process.”
Ondanks de politieke wanorde zal demissionair premier Baburam Bhattarai naar Brazilië vliegen voor de UN Conferentie ‘Rio+20’ … “and no argument by the opposition over his constitutional status or threats of widespread protests is likely to change his mind.”
